Delozier Committed to Reaching a Responsible Budget Agreement

February 4, 2025

HARRISBURG – State Rep. Sheryl M. Delozier (R-Cumberland) issued a statement detailing her reaction to today’s budget address by Gov. Josh Shapiro for the 2025-26 fiscal year:

“Today, the governor unveiled a massive, $51.47 billion spending plan that, unfortunately, fails to address many of the issues important to 88th District residents. This proposal increases spending by a whopping 7.5% over last fiscal year, a rate we simply cannot keep up with.

“If enacted, this budget would deplete the remaining $2.89 billion General Fund surplus the General Assembly has worked hard to create in prior budget cycles; and it would require transferring $1.6 billion from the Rainy-Day Fund to balance,” said Delozier.

“Thankfully, this is just a starting point. Now that we’ve heard the governor’s wish list, the hard work of creating a more responsible budget can begin. Over three weeks, the House Appropriations Committee will hear testimony from state agency leaders about their funding requests and we will work toward a compromise.

“From funding four new Pennsylvania State Police cadet classes, supporting our local firefighters, bolstering education and accelerating the reduction of the Corporate Net Income Tax (CNIT), the governor and I share some of the same goals. However, this level of spending puts Pennsylvania at a crossroads. We must work together to grow our economy, otherwise the cost of this budget will be passed on to taxpayers. That is unacceptable.

“I look forward to doing my part to advance responsible budget solutions and priorities over the next several months. That includes combatting the new energy taxes Shapiro has proposed and instead advocating we unleash the enormous economic potential that lies right under our feet in the form of coal, natural gas and more. These can be huge economic drivers for the Commonwealth that help generate revenue and create family-sustaining jobs.”

Questions about the budget or any state-related matter may be directed to Delozier’s district office at 717-761-4665.
