Delozier Announces State Grants to Support Cumberland County Historical Preservation

(HARRISBURG) – Rep. Sheryl M. Delozier (R-Cumberland) today announced several organizations in Cumberland County have been awarded grants from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) to support the preservation and promotion of local history.

“These grants are a testament to the rich history of our county and the dedicated efforts of local organizations to preserve it for future generations,” said Delozier. “I’m glad to support initiatives that keep our community’s stories alive.”

The following grants were awarded.

Historical and Archival Records Care Grants:
• Cumberland County Historical Society was awarded $4,000 to improve the storage and organization of the Carlisle Sentinel’s 35mm photo negatives from 1983 to 1989.

• Friends of the New Cumberland Public Library was awarded $751 to digitize and create preservation copies of two unique 16mm motion pictures that document the history of New Cumberland.

Cultural and Historical Support Grant Program:
• Cumberland County Historical Society was awarded $20,000 to support general operations, including America250PA exhibits, public programming, utilities, staff salaries and other essential services.

“These investments will help ensure our local institutions have the resources they need to protect and share our heritage,” Delozier added. “I appreciate the work of the historical society and the Friends of the New Cumberland Public Library for their commitment to preserving Cumberland County’s history.”

The PHMC’s grant programs are designed to strengthen Pennsylvania’s historical and cultural organizations and ensure the long-term care of archival materials and historic resources.
